Positioned adjacent to Fisk University’s historic Jubilee Hall, this four-story, 78,000-square-foot residence hall introduces a modern living environment while respecting the character of the surrounding campus. Fisk University
TRC Worldwide Engineering provided structural engineering services for the new 304-bed facility, which utilizes a conventional multi-story structural system designed for efficiency, durability, and long-term performance. The structure supports a mix of residential units and shared amenity spaces, accommodating both private living and collaborative environments.
The building was designed to foster a “living-learning” experience, integrating open study areas, teaching labs, and social spaces within a structurally efficient framework. Careful coordination of the structural system allowed for flexible interior layouts, private room configurations, and modern building features - including integrated mechanical systems, vertical circulation, and distributed service areas - without compromising performance or constructability.
As the first new residence hall on campus in nearly five decades, the project required a balanced approach - delivering a contemporary student housing solution while aligning with the scale and context of adjacent historic structures.
