TRC provided structural steel detailing services for the 169,000-square-foot Owensboro Convention Center, a riverfront landmark completed in 2014 and designed by Trahan Architects.
The facility features a heavily loaded structural steel frame supported on more than 500 auger-cast piles, enabling expansive column-free exhibit halls and ballrooms. TRC’s detailing scope supported approximately 1,500 tons of structural steel, including preparation of erection drawings, framing plans, and detailed shop information to facilitate the project’s complex steel sequencing.
A defining feature of the building is its deep super truss system, which allows the program to be vertically stacked — placing ballrooms, meeting rooms, and kitchens above the exhibition hall to maximize the constrained riverfront footprint. The structure also incorporates a dramatic 54-foot-high steel curtain wall along the north and south elevations, providing panoramic views of the Ohio River and downtown Owensboro.
Architecturally, the convention center is distinguished by roughly 50,000 square feet of custom anodized aluminum rainscreen panels and a coordinated aluminum ceiling system that visually links exterior soffits with interior public spaces.
