Designed to advance patient-centered care for the Shelbyville community, the Major Health Partners Replacement Hospital connects directly to the Benesse Cancer Center and represents one of the first healthcare facilities completed in the United States following the Affordable Care Act.
The new hospital emphasizes flexibility, staff efficiency, and improved clinical outcomes, with a program weighted toward outpatient services while maintaining targeted inpatient capacity. Key components include an Emergency Department, Imaging, Ambulatory Care Center, Surgery, Birthing Center, ICU, Medical/Surgical Unit, and Post-Surgical Unit. The entire second floor is dedicated to physician offices and exam space, while the inpatient unit on the third floor features a central bath and spa with a massage room to support patient comfort and recovery.
Patient and family experience guided the design approach, supporting Major Health Partners’ mission to deliver advanced medical technology alongside personalized care for an aging regional population.
TRC’s structural engineering solutions enabled the hospital’s efficient layout, clinical flexibility, and long-term performance, contributing to a modern healthcare campus positioned to serve the community for decades.
