The CBIS & Administration Building is a key component of Memphis International Airport’s $700 million Terminal Modernization and Seismic Program (TMSP). The new 105,000-square-foot, four-story facility is designed to replace aging administrative space while significantly improving baggage screening and transport operations.

TRC is providing structural steel detailing services for approximately 800 tons of structural steel, supporting a highly coordinated frame that must accommodate both stringent seismic requirements and complex airport systems integration. Because the airport lies near the New Madrid Fault Line, the steel structure is engineered to meet rigorous seismic performance criteria, incorporating strategies consistent with the airport’s broader modernization approach.

A critical element of the project is the ground-floor Checked Baggage Inspection System (CBIS), where the structural frame is detailed to support heavy conveyor loads and automated sorting equipment. The exterior envelope — composed of masonry, curtainwall, and metal panel systems — required precise steel interface detailing to ensure constructability and long-term performance.

The project is being delivered in phases, beginning with demolition of the legacy 1974 Concourse A structure in mid-2025, followed by new construction now advancing toward enclosure. TRC’s steel detailing supports the facility’s structural resilience, systems coordination, and accelerated delivery for this major airport infrastructure upgrade.
